Conductor

Richard read music at Cambridge, where he sang with Trinity College Chapel Choir under Richard Marlow’s direction, and went on to study composition at the Royal Northern College of Music. He has conducted several ensembles across the North West of Britain, including choirs, orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has studied conducting with internationally renowned conductors including George Hurst, Howard Williams, Denise Ham and Rodolfo Saglimbeni. He worked as a peripatetic upper strings teacher in Wrexham County for several years before training as a mathematics teacher.
He lives in Lancaster with his wife and two children, where he is a maths teacher at the Royal Grammar School, and conducts the school choir as well as the Joint Schools’ symphony Orchestra, a collaboration of three local schools, the Royal Grammar, Girls’ Grammar and Ripley St. Thomas Academy. Alongside this, he is a qualified yoga instructor and is writing his first novel. A common theme uniting these is a love of communication and storytelling which he aspires to bring out in each performance.
